Sterling silver is an alloy composed by weight of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper, nickel or zinc.

If we see the number “925” on any silver jewelry, it is an indication that it is made of sterling silver. The number 925 represents the purity level of the silver used in the jewelry, which is 92.5%

925 silver means that it contains 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent alloy.  Copper, nickel or zinc are usually mixed as two or more alloys. This alloy silver is also called sterling silver. //

Sterling silver begins to tarnish over time when exposed to moisture and a number of common chemicals, including sulfur found in air around cities, chlorine present in swimming pools or spas, and the natural acids on our skin.

925 sterling silver jewellery is generally hypoallergenic due to its composition and high silver purity.
