The Bab al-Mandeb Strait also known as the "Gate of Tears"or “Gate of Grief” "Gate of lamentation". In Arabic, “bab” meaning is “gate” and “mandeb” or “mandab” meaning “lamentation.” Its name appears to refer to the perils of navigating the narrow waterway, which is rife with crosscurrents, unpredictable winds, reefs, and shoals.
The strait has great strategic and economic importance, forming a vital link between the Mediterranean Sea and East Asia.
After beginning of Gaza war a name come with Bab el-Mandeb Strait is Houthi.The Houthis, who rule the most populated areas of Yemen.Houthis attack on usa,uk & Israeli vessels using missiles and drones when they enter in the Strait. They claim that they are attacking in support of the Palestinian people in response to Israel's attacks on Gaza.
