When did the practice of giving Eidi or Eid money to children first start?

The thing that multiplies the Eid joy of children and teenagers after getting new clothes is Eidi or Eid money.  Especially for teenagers  if they don't have eid money they feel like orphans.

The word Eidiyah is a mixture of the words “Eid” and “hadiyah,” essentially translating as Eid gifts. However, Muslims around the world know this tradition by different names, including Eid salami and green envelopes.

The two main religious festivals of Muslims are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. Eid' or 'Eidiyya' is an Arab tradition of givig money and gifts to children, teenagers and family members by older relatives or family friends as part of the worldwide celebration of these two religious festivals.

This 'Idiyah' practice is believed to have originated during determined
Caliphate of Arabia in the 10th century.  At that time, the Caliphs used to give food, clothes, money
or other gifts to the elderly and younger members of the society on the first day of Eid.
Later, during the  Mamluk Empire, it became a custom to pay a certain amount of cash during Eid to purchase clothing.The amount of this financial allocation varied from person to person, and was determined according to a person's social status and importance. In continuation of this, the custom was extended to the family level by the end of the Ottoman Empire.  Since then the practice of children receiving cash gifts from parents and senior members of the family spreaded everywhere.

That means this practice has been going on for  hundred of years. Gradually this culture  has evolved among Muslims all over the world.

We may refer here to a hadith of the Prophet nabi karim সল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম , in which it is said,
Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A.) narrated that the Prophet, nabi karim সল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম said, "Giving gifts to each other love will increase through this."
